Hamilton intends to keep going

NEWS STORY
27/08/2025

Lewis Hamilton takes to social media ahead of the second half of the season as he vows to "keep going, even when it's difficult".

While others have taken the opportunity to share pics from their hols or to flog ice cream, energy drinks and whiskey, Lewis Hamilton has maintained strict radio silence over the break.

Of course, the seven-time world champion went into the break on a low, having described himself as "useless" and even suggesting Ferrari find a replacement over what was a difficult weekend in Hungary.

As the break came to an end, thereby allowing the majority of drivers and teams to post the usual "it's race week" drivel, Hamilton took a more philosophical approach.

"I'm always so grateful for this time, for the opportunity to rest and recharge," he wrote on Instagram.

"There's a lot I've been meditating on," he continued. "Every one of us is up against so much, both individually and globally.

"It's so important that we embrace the light of truth and love and take care of ourselves so that we can better take care of others.

"We can't look away," he insisted. "We have to keep going, even when it's difficult."

Though the rest of us have no choice but to deal with those difficulties - most of which were not our own creation - it is good to know that Hamilton is coming back refreshed and fighting fit.

While he will be sorely tested over the remainder of the season, all eyes are on how he and Ferrari handle next year's rules overhaul.

Speaking at the start of the break, while giving his support to the British driver, Fred Vasseur suggested that perhaps too much was expected of Hamilton in his debut season with the Maranello outfit.

Others, including Bernie Ecclestone, felt it was time for the Briton to move on, the former F1 boss helpfully suggesting a couple of potential replacements.

"@Editor.... am uncertain what kind of drinking establishments you seem to frequent or have frequented but that is a new one on me however i admit that I learn something new every day of my life..... and finally where would be without the odd non-conformist's opinions?"

"@ Ricardo_sanchez

Echoing the words uttered outside drinking establishments since time immemorial... "leave him alone, he's not worth it!"

Indeed, the eternal contrarian revels in it."

"@Ed....re 'colonial' comments. I was not questioning your analysis and comments in the Masi controversy. The fact was that I was at a loss to see why the nationality of an FIA official was introduced in the first place? You suggest that Masi was 'under orders' and that I find somewhat difficult to comprehend. Who could have possibly/realistically instructed Masi to take the decisions he made in those frantic last few minutes? Wolff/Mercedes could've always protested the result if they believed that the race was fixed but they did not! Why?"

"@Ricardo-sanchez. very good opening comments...had a good chuckle there. That said IMO Hamilton used the age old 'mea culpa' to attract the sympathy vote...and to an extent it worked as a lot of the initial attention on the GOAT's failures was re focused back onto the car! Leclerc's performances do however throw a 'spanner in the works'. Cast your mind back to Mercedes '24 where Russell beat the GOAT across all metrics other than fastest laps. That, to me, is a prime indicator of a declining performance and all the hype and theatrical activities appear to have fallen flat when put to the test. Hamilton may go on to win the next ten races and prove me wrong on all accounts but for that to happen he needs more than 'embracing the light and love blah blah blah'. Looking at the broader picture, Jack Doohan, rookie, was given 6 races after spending the previous year on the sidelines, then he was dumped. Hamilton with 18 years in F1 and 7WDC's to his name has had 14 races this year and still no podium even, let alone any wins...... and he still has a drive!!! Maybe taking a 'knee' and seeking divine guidance will work....or is that too cynical?"

"@kenji -

“I am not a crook” - Richard Nixon (1973)

“I did not have sexual relations with that woman” - Bill Clinton (1998)

“I'm not anti Hamilton” - Kenji (2025)

You haven’t exposed anything, here. Hamilton’s behaviour reflects emotional openness and frustration - not narcissism. Publicly suggesting he might not be good enough anymore is the opposite of narcissism - it’s self-doubt, not self-aggrandisement. "

"@Ricardo-sanchez. Once again you've omitted the word 'narcissist' that I used? I think that you've also mis interpreted my comments. I'm not anti Hamilton, I just like to expose the flim flam surrounding his exploits and the attendant fandom. When under severe scrutiny the 'emperor is seen to be rather naked' apart from a dearth of discarded Met Gala handmedowns! And for the record...Bex are not available these days. Enjoy the week-end."

"@Kenji – Just to clarify, as far as I can see, ‘cathexist’ isn’t actually a recognised word. But - if it was - even by your own definition (intense and unhealthy emotional investment in a single person), I’d suggest it’s a little ironic for you to be using it in the context of yet another of your anti-Hamilton rants. Throw in “Jack Syndrome” for good measure and I think someone may have earned themselves a nice cup of tea and a bit of a lie-down. "

Definitely no "colonial jealousy" from this side, and I think you'll find that we were almost alone in defending Masi from the outset, always believing that he was acting under orders."

"@Ricardo-sanchez.....someone suffering from 'cathexis' ....hence the narcissist categorization. Still look at it like this, the GOAT suggested that Ferrari should find another driver when all he had to do was hand in his resignation, that didn't happen because smoke was being 'blown', but it's all media manipulation...... and it works. What fun, what fun, sitting in the sun, watching the trains go by. Now there'll be a miraculous redemption and he'll win the Dutch on Sunday. As for the OZ reference, well it didn't take to long to see the intro of the 'jack syndrome' and the attendant colonial jealousy. Masi was scapegoated but that's history now.....but only for some. Time to go racing chaps,"

"@Kenji - I think Hamilton would struggle to be a ‘cathexist’, since there’s apparently no such noun. However, the reference to cathexis feels rather ironic in this context. An intense emotional investment in a single person…now where have we seen signs of that kind of unhealthy fixation?

Oh, the irony.

"@Ricardo-sanchez..haha, keep the comedy coming. Your amateur attempt at psych analysis has failed as i must inform you that it is a big NO. No bullying to report, just an honest attempt to call out the faux actions of a narcissistic cathexist who, despite his record, still fails to deliver. The Don Corleone intro look was simply a flaky diversion.....especially when new talent gets booted out so readily yet the GOAT lives on....borrowed time maybe?"
