Azerbaijan Grand Prix: Practice team notes - Ferrari

NEWS STORY
19/09/2025

Around half the first session was lost to a red flag, while the second one went smoothly for Scuderia Ferrari HP on Friday in Baku.

73 laps were completed, 34 for Hamilton, 39 for Leclerc and they topped the FP2 time sheet in that order, that session being the quickest. The team evaluated the C6 Soft and C5 Medium brought here by Pirelli, while comparing various aero configurations.

FP1: Charles had a trouble free session, running two sets of the same compound, as indeed did the rest of the field. Lewis clipped a wall with the front left corner of his SF-25, without causing too much damage, so that he was able to pit and continue running in the session. All the teams were affected by the 25 minutes of red flag time, caused by a problem with the kerb at turn 16. It meant drivers were unable to follow the usual Baku routine of doing plenty of laps, getting used to running close to the walls. In the short time available, Charles and Lewis focused solely on preparing for qualifying.

FP2: The full programme was completed in this session, with Charles still running the softest compound, while Lewis also tried the Medium. As expected, both compounds offered very similar performance over a single flying lap. Towards the end, both drivers took on a heavier fuel load to run in race trim. Lewis was on the Mediums previously used at the start of the session, while Leclerc ran the Softs from the second part.

Lewis Hamilton: Overall, it was a constructive day. The first session was challenging as I needed to get used to the brakes, but we made some good changes for FP2. The car felt much better, everything started to come together, and my confidence grew lap by lap. It was really positive to have such a strong second session, probably my best FP2 of the year so far, and shows the progress we're making. There are still a few areas we can improve for tomorrow, but I believe we're moving in the right direction.

Charles Leclerc: I think there's more potential this weekend. I did a solid job today, but I want to extract more. Our competitors seem to be very strong and I expect to see some surprises in qualifying tomorrow, but anything can happen on this track, so we will see what's on the cards. We'll fight for a good starting position tomorrow.
