Oscar Piastri has been given an official reprimand for failing to slow under a yellow flag in FP2

The flag was displayed at Marshal Post 1.2 and a green light was shown at light panel 3. Drivers had been instructed that if they see a green light they must take the action required under a yellow flag condition even if they had not been shown the yellow flag.

In this case, Piastri had passed Marshal Post 1.2 when the yellow flag was shown for the first time but was able to see the green light at light panel 3.

The yellow flag was withdrawn less than one second after the green light became visible to the Australian.

Therefore technically a breach of the regulations had occurred however because of the mitigating circumstances the penalty imposed was reduced to a reprimand, consistent with previous similar incidents.

It is Piastri's first reprimand of the season.

"Is this some kind of joke? If you see a green light treat it the same as a yellow until a yellow appears for less than a second then withdrawn!!! All this happening whilst travelling at approx. 70metres per sec... "

"If I understand this correctly, Piastri's fault was not looking at his steering wheel, where the yellow flag was presumably displayed (he never actually passed a displayed yellow flag).

Given he was about to cross the finish line, of course he should be looking at his steering wheel, while driving at more than 200km/h. Unless drivers actually receive an aural warning of a yellow flag, a reprimand is stupid.

And, was a yellow flag even necessary, given it was displayed for less than a second."
