In very tricky conditions Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton qualified 9th and 20th respectively.

FP3: In this session, all the teams, including the Scuderia were keen to catch up on their long-run work, as they had been unable to acquire sufficient reference data when yesterday's final session was twice red-flagged because of an issue with a manhole cover. The track was too wet for slicks at the start, so all twenty drivers went out on Intermediates. The low temperatures meant the track was very slow to dry, remaining damp and greasy and therefore slippery, especially off the racing line, causing most drivers to have a few moments. Everyone switched to Softs halfway through the session.

Q1: Light rain was falling when the pit lane light went green so most of the drivers, including Charles and Lewis, fitted Intermediate tyres, however it soon became clear that the Wets were the tyre to go for so everyone made the switch. In an action-packed first session Charles' fastest time was deleted for track limits, but he eventually managed to set a time with one minute to go to the end of the session. Unfortunately, Lewis was unable to set a time, partly because his attempt was hampered by several yellow flags.

Q2: The rain had stopped but conditions demanded that all drivers stick with the Wets. In very slippery conditions, the drivers struggled to control their cars. Charles managed to make the cut with the 9th fastest time.

Q3: Charles was the first car to go out on track for this session. This time, everyone was on Intermediates, as the track had slightly dried by then even though it was still very slippery. Track conditions improved significantly throughout the session, so that times rapidly improved. Charles finished the session in ninth place to secure a place on the fifth row for tomorrow's race.

Charles Leclerc: It was a really tricky qualifying today, with low grip on the wet track. Our car struggles in these conditions and it's really difficult to find a way to maintain a large enough window of good grip to fight with our rivals. It's frustrating, but we will continue doing everything we can to find a solution.

The race should be dry tomorrow, so the conditions will be different again. We had quite a high downforce setup for today, so this could impact our straight-line speed in the race. We will make the most of it and I hope we can have a good start and move forward during the race.

Lewis Hamilton: That was a really disappointing qualifying session. After FP3 I felt we had good pace in the car, but the wet conditions didn't work in our favour today. Visibility was poor and we were unfortunate to be hampered by a few yellow flags, which meant I couldn't put a proper lap together in my last three attempts. We'll regroup tonight and aim to move back into the points tomorrow.
