Singapore Grand Prix: Practice team notes - Ferrari

NEWS STORY
03/10/2025

The first session went to plan but the second was very much shortened because of two lengthy red flag periods in what was not an easy first day on track in Singapore. Scuderia Ferrari HP completed 83 laps today - 43 with Leclerc and 40 with Hamilton - evaluating all three Pirelli compounds, the C3, C4 and C5.

During the two sessions, both drivers tested the cooling system fitted to the SF-25, as the Race Director had declared a "Heat Hazard" for this Grand Prix. After further evaluation the team and drivers will decide whether or not to use it in the race.

In tomorrow's final hour of free practice at 17.30 local (11.30 CEST) work will continue on fine tuning the cars for qualifying at 21.00 (15.00 CEST) as grid position has such a strong influence on the final result of this race. However, run plan might have to be altered slightly as it was impossible to do any long run testing in FP2.

FP1: The session went smoothly for Charles and Lewis, both getting through their programme, doing plenty of laps on the Hard tyres to get used to the track before upping the pace on the softest compound available here. There was significant track evolution as the track cleaned up and rubbered in, with lap times coming down accordingly. Towards the end of the session, Charles took on more fuel to run in race configuration, while Lewis only did one lap in this trim before both drivers did practice starts on the grid.

FP2: The second session, the more useful one, running at the same time as tomorrow's qualifying, was a stop-start affair because of two long red flag periods, after first George Russell and then Liam Lawson crashed into the barriers. Charles and Lewis began on the Medium compound and only had limited running on the Softs because of the second lengthy stop. As cars were preparing to leave the pits before the restart, there was a coming together between Charles and Lando Norris as they came out of their garages to queue up and wait for the green light with just ten minutes of track time remaining. The Scuderia was fined for the incident. Charles then set his fastest time on the Softs, but never got a really clean lap, while Lewis was unable to go quicker than he had done on the Mediums.

Charles Leclerc: Overall, it was a bit of a difficult day. FP1 gave us some positive indications and we were able to build a good base, while, for everyone, FP2 was much more chaotic and we didn't manage to put everything together as we wanted. I believe the pace is there and we need to maximise the potential executing everything well and bringing all the pieces together. I don't know if we'll be in the fight for pole, but the target is to qualify well and give ourselves the best possible chance for Sunday's race.

Lewis Hamilton: Overall, it's been a productive first day. It's my first time driving here with Ferrari, and I'm feeling positive with how the car is behaving and responding on this track so far.

We spent the sessions getting properly acclimatised and I feel we made good progress heading into FP2. It was a slightly disrupted evening with the red flags, so we weren't able to complete our long runs as planned, but there were still encouraging signs.

There's work to do overnight, as always, but we'll take the positives from today and look to build on them for tomorrow.
