Singapore Grand Prix: Qualifying team notes - Ferrari

NEWS STORY
04/10/2025

FP3: Charles and Lewis did plenty of running on the Medium tyre to run both race and qualifying simulations. The session was red flagged after Liam Lawson hit the barriers at turn 7. Towards the end of the session, the focus was entirely on qualifying with both drivers running the Soft compound, on which they set their best times.

Q1: Lewis and Charles both had five sets of new Soft tyres available for qualifying. On the first of these, the Scuderia Ferrari HP drivers did two flying laps, setting competitive times. Significant track evolution meant everyone had to use a second set of Softs, Hamilton then set the fastest time, while Leclerc did not improve, but also got through to Q2 in eighth place.

Q2: The two SF-25s went out on new Softs, for two timed laps. However, both drivers had to abort their first run. On the second, Lewis was provisionally third, while Charles was slow, after brushing a wall in sector 2. Another set of new tyres for both Ferrari drivers, although Lewis did not need to use it, making it through in seventh place, right behind Charles who had to push right to the end. Both of them made it through to the final phase.

Q3: Lewis went out on his last set of new Soft tyres, while Charles was on his second set from Q1, to keep the new one for the final attempt, when the track would be at its best. After all ten drivers had made their first Q3 run, Lewis found himself in sixth place just ahead of Charles. For his second run, Lewis went with the set he had used on his second run in Q2. He went quicker but was still sixth. Charles went out on new tyres, but was unable to improve, making a mistake in the final two corners, and had to settle for seventh.

Lewis Hamilton: There was potential in the car today, but the session didn't run smoothly for us and we just didn't have the pace when it counted. It's disappointing not to be further up because the balance has felt good for most of the weekend. We struggled to get the tyres into the right window towards the end and that limited what we could do.

Like most teams, we also didn't get any long-run running in, so we'll be going into the race with less information than we'd like. There's more in the package than we showed today, and while overtaking here isn't straightforward, it's a long race and the target is to move forward.

Charles Leclerc: It was a really tough qualifying, which unfortunately seems to match what we have seen since Friday. I found it hard to push the car to the limit and on a street circuit this makes it even more of a struggle to put everything together, especially over a qualifying lap. Tonight we will analyse all the data carefully to understand what we can do for the race, to try and bring home the best possible result on a track where overtaking is very difficult.

Fred Vasseur: A frustrating session, as Charles final Q3 lap was looking good until the final sector. We had a very strong pace on Friday morning, but after that, we didn't manage to extract it from the car. The SF-25 is not easy to drive, it is really on the edge and our Q3 times were the same as in Q1.

It was not easy to find the right approach with the tyres on the out-tlap to ensure they are in good shape at the beginning and the end of the flying lap. So it seems we did not progress in the right direction over the session.

Tomorrow will be a different story on a track where it will not be easy to overtake so we will evaluate an aggressive approach also with the strategy.
